Communication Arts

Janet Martin is President of Communication Arts Inc., the Boulder-based design firm founded by Henry Beer and Richard Foy in 1973. After receiving a B.A. in Art History, magna cum laude , from Colorado College , she attended graduate school at the University of Colorado , and later earned her MBA from the University of Denver .

Martin served on the Executive Committee and Chair of the Boulder Chamber of Commerce Board in 2003, and is a past president of the Association of Professional Design Firms. She is also a member of the Design Futures Council Advisory Board. In 2001, she was named as a Senior Fellow of that organization.

Martin was presented with the 1999 Fellow Award by the Society of Environmental Graphic Design. She has served on the Boards of SEGD and Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design, and is a current board member of the Colorado Ski Museum .

Janet and her husband T. Scott Martin moved to Boulder in 1973, and have been married for thirty-three years. Scott is CEO and founder of Ellora Energy Inc., also located in Boulder . Their daughter, Laura, is a junior at Boulder High School . The Martins have been actively involved in the expansion of Boulder Country Day School, and the Contemporary Realism group at the Denver Art Museum .

As a working mom, Janet knows that she needs to exercise more, eat less, and lead a balanced life. It's always a work in process. Currently, she's taking conversational French and sometimes practices for an upcoming piano recital.
