Birth Of A Quarrytown "In 1880, when Edward S. Lyon rode over Red Hill into the St. Vrain Valley, he looked down on land once occupied by Native Americans living among white ranchers and declared that this would 'be the place to be'". The massive amounts of limestone and sandstone would provide men with an opportunity to make a decent living. In 1882, the town of Lyons was laid out and platted. One of the first businesses that attracted men to the town was the Lyons Rock and Lime Quarry Company.

Diane Benedict will present a program with historical photographs on the town of Lyons, Colorado, at the Carnegie Branch Library for Local History. She is a Lyons resident, local historian, and the author of the book, Birth of A Quarry Town, 1800's, Lyons.

While researching and documenting pioneer families buried in Lyons Cemetery, Diane became fascinated with the people who settled at the gateway to the Rocky Mountains.

Come and enjoy an evening filled with fascinating facts and little known stories about these spirited individuals who founded the quarry town of Lyons, Colorado.
